NPAA: A Nurses' Union That Actually Works for You

Unions for Nurses & Midwives are expensive in Australia:

$820 per year for the NSWNMA / $815 per year for the ANMF SA / $760 per year for the QNMU... and so on. 

By comparison the NPAA (and each State Branch around the country) is $464.10 per year. NPAA and other Red Unions are also the most contactable and highest rated unions in Australia. 

Nurses & Midwives need a union. That’s why the Nurses’ Professional Association of Australia (NPAA) exists; to be a union that actually works for nurses and midwives. The old, bloated, monopolistic and uncontactable style just doesn’t work. Members of the old monopolies are just not getting what they pay for. 

Unions should provide high-quality services to their members and be accountable and be contactable by their members. For nurses & midwives, the union should provide PI insurance and high-quality services. 

Unfortunately, many nurses have been let down by the existing nurses' unions. As a monopolies, they have been overcharging their members and under-delivering.

We called one of the unions to test how helpful they are:

They didn't even pick up the phone. When a member has a simple question, and as nurses, these questions are often time-sensitive - they are told by a robot “sorry, we're too busy. We'll call you back”. We tried it, and it was OVER 24 HOURS until we got a call back.

That’s a minimum not a maximum.

Even when they do pick up the phone - do they actually help? Have you ever been kept waiting, or told "sorry, we can't or won't take your case?"

For around $800 per year, don’t you deserve better?

The NPAA is a nurses' union that was created by nurses to provide a better alternative to the existing monopolies. We believe in providing high-quality services to our members, being accountable and most of all contactable. The NPASA is able to do that for ~$300 less per year. How? By focusing on people, not the politics. 

A better question is why do the other unions charge so much? Where does the money go?  

We understand that nurses have busy lives and that their time is valuable. That's why we are committed to picking up the phone fast (under 45 seconds) and providing same-day responses to our members' email inquiries.
We believe that our members should have access to timely and accurate information so that they can make informed decisions about their careers and their lives.

In addition, we provide (the same) PI Insurance nurses require for their registration, in addition to workplace protection. We understand that nursing is a challenging profession that comes with inherent risks. That's why we offer comprehensive workplace protection and insurance to our members. We believe that our members should be able to focus on their jobs without having to worry about their safety, security, support or the need to become Industrial Relations experts overnight. 

Nurses deserve better. Nurses deserve a union that provides high-quality services, timely responses, and comprehensive workplace protections and insurances. Nurses deserve a union that responds to them.
