After an outcry from NPAA members and hundreds of thousands of Nurses & Midwives across Australia, NPAA demanded that AHPRA fix the registration issues as a matter of urgency. We are pleased to announce that AHPRA has privately and publicly responded, pledging to do better for Healthcare Professionals.
Following our letter of demand, AHPRA has now issued formal commitments and implemented changes, vindicating the concerns raised by thousands of frontline nurses and midwives.
This is a significant win for NPAA members and the broader health workforce.
In the immediate aftermath of NPAA’s formal correspondence, AHPRA has:
✅ Extended the Registration Deadline
The annual registration renewal deadline has now been extended to 15 June 2025, providing a critical buffer for those locked out of the portal or delayed by system failures.
✅ Waived Late Fees
AHPRA has confirmed that no late fees will apply to any practitioner who renews by 15 June.
✅ Guaranteed No Deregistration
In his written response to NPAA, Justin Untersteiner, AHPRA CEO, confirmed:
“No nurse or midwife will be removed from the register because of issues accessing their renewal through the AHPRA portal.”
This commitment was echoed by Heather Edwards, QLD AHPRA State Manager, who further reassured stakeholders via email:
“Please be assured, no nurse or midwife will lose their registration as a result of the new portal and renewal process.”
✅ Boosted Customer Support
In direct response to member complaints, AHPRA is now:
If you're still experiencing login, MFA, or portal issues, you should:
Lodge a Web Enquiry via AHPRA's Portal

When submitting:
This remains the most direct way to escalate your case through AHPRA’s current support system.
If you’ve already taken these steps and are still unable to resolve your issue, please contact NPAA. We’re continuing to raise member concerns directly with AHPRA and can advocate further on your behalf if needed.
AHPRA’s response came only after NPAA escalated the issue directly at a national level. Our advocacy forced acknowledgment of the portal failures and drove meaningful action to protect practitioners from unfair penalties and administrative fallout.
Without this intervention, thousands of nurses and midwives could have faced late fees, deregistration, or unnecessary stress during an already overstretched period.
“We will not stand by while a failed digital rollout sidelines our frontline health workers.” – Kara Thomas, NPAA President
