NPAA Recovers Full Entitlements After Misclassified Leave and Cancelled Shifts
A Queensland nurse and NPAA member has had her full entitlements restored after scheduled shifts were incorrectly cancelled and misclassified as unpaid leave following her resignation.
The member had remained available and ready to work but was removed from her roster without consultation. To make matters worse, the missed shifts were not properly recorded, resulting in an unexpected loss of income at the end of her employment.
Seeking clarity and support, she contacted NPAA. Her case was immediately reviewed, and multiple errors were uncovered by her case manager. Communications with management revealed that the process for managing her exit had been mishandled, and her leave had been incorrectly categorised.
NPAA raised the issue directly with management, citing procedural inconsistencies and a failure to follow fair rostering and leave practices. Within weeks, the member’s records were corrected: the time originally classified as unpaid leave was reallocated as annual leave, and outstanding hours were paid in full.
This quick and fair resolution meant the member avoided prolonged financial uncertainty and was able to close out her employment on the terms she was owed.
