Case Win: Workplace Bullying

Advocacy & Support for Nurses

Workplace bullying is an experience that no employee should endure.

Kylie, a member of the NPAA Queensland branch, found herself on the receiving end of this when her son fell ill and was sent home from childcare. To manage her responsibilities as a parent while continuing to fulfil her professional duties, Kylie sought and was granted approval to work from home.

Despite being allowed to work from home, Kylie received hostility from her clinical manager, who communicated in an aggressive and threatening manner. Feeling unsafe to return to work, Kylie took the courageous step of raising her concerns to the Facility Manager. Unfortunately, no effective action was taken to address the bullying occurring.

Feeling unsupported, Kylie made the difficult decision to resign from her position. Instead of addressing the reasons behind Kylie's resignation, HR's response was to deduct payment from her final week of work without explanation or formal communication.

Seeking justice and rightful compensation, Kylie turned to the NPAA for support. With the assistance of our case manager’s advocacy, Kylie successfully secured the payment that was initially deducted from her final pay-check.

How is the NPAA so effective in defending members during workplace issues and disputes? Our experienced and professional case managers use our unique RED™ case resolution system.

Why is the NPAA different? We believe that real change in healthcare STARTS with empowering frontline nurses, not bureaucrats.
