Date: Wednesday 22 April 2026
Time: 3 PM – 4 PM AEST
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Gain clarity on how the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission operates, and how it supports quality, safety, and accountability across the sector.
Break down key reforms and understand how they apply in real-world settings, not just on paper.
Learn how to effectively use systems such as SIRS and the online complaints process, and what to expect at each stage.
Understand how to provide feedback in a way that protects you, supports your patients, and contributes to meaningful change.
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is joining NPAA President Kara Thomas to break down recent legislative changes, what the Commission is working on now, and how you can have your say. Open to all nurses and care professionals working with older Australians.
Aged care nurses are expected to deliver safe, accountable care while navigating complex systems, increasing regulation, and high-pressure environments. Understanding how to raise concerns, use complaints pathways, and engage with the system is no longer optional, it is part of safe professional practice.
This webinar gives you practical clarity on how to navigate these processes, protect yourself, and contribute to better outcomes for both staff and the patients in your care.

Ana Chenoweth is a Registered Nurse and A/g Director Clinical Complaints Project at the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
Ana brings extensive clinical experience across several health sectors, complex complaints management expertise and is passionate about strengthening clinical governance systems to support better outcomes for both staff and consumers.
Kara Thomas specialised in perioperative nursing early in her career, undertaking postgraduate specialty education and learning multiple specialties over nearly two decades. For Kara nursing is more than a job, it is a calling and a passion. To be able to serve the community during times of vulnerability and to see what is possible with evidence-based best practice is a great privilege. Team leading a busy tertiary obstetric and gynaecology theatre was a challenge that I cherished. “I loved my job.”
Kara has also undertaken a Masters of Community and International Development and has used her knowledge to research and contribute to policy discussion. Truth and transparency in policy development are critical to ensuring we build a healthcare system that creates Public confidence and safety. Trust in practitioners and our institutions relies on professional integrity, open scientific discourse, and accountability.
Kara is one of NPAQ’s founding members, motivated to get involved because NPAQ has no political affiliations and is an organisation run by Nurses for Nurses. An association dedicated to fighting for the best possible health system for practitioners and the patients/clients they serve.
