Hospitals quietly deteriorate until decline becomes unbearable. Recently, nurses at Woodford raised serious concerns about workplace conditions and patient safety. In partnership with the NPAA, we escalated these concerns to key decision-makers.
And it worked. Standing united for change, brave members and the NPAA together. Metro North leadership has sprung into action. Senior leaders visited the facility to listen directly to staff concerns, alongside a confidential staff survey and a confidential reporting line linked directly to the Executive Director.
Additional staffing has been put in place. And most Importantly, leadership committed to working alongside staff on shift to better understand the concerns being raised by those on the frontline. Together we make real change possible.
At NPAA, we believe in raising the bar. It starts with courage form our members raising concerns about safety, staffing, or workplace conditions. Then we act. Through advocacy, we amplify our voices and drive change.
STANDING UP FOR OPEN MEDICAL DEBATE
At the same time, NPAA is continuing to advocate for open, ethical, evidence-based discussion within the medical profession. This weekend, we expect more media attention over silencing doctors debating on risks and benefits of gender-affirming care.
The NPAA has formally requested discussion with AHPRA and the Queensland Premier. We believe everyone should have a voice and that healthy dialogue helps everyone make informed decisions. We’re taking steps to ensure medical professionals can engage in responsible, evidence-based discussions without fear of professional repercussions.
This follows previous correspondence from NPAA thanking the government for maintaining the prohibition on puberty blockers.
A COLLECTIVE VOICE
Everything starts with courage to speak up and take a stand. When backed by Australia’s most contactable union, we amplify our voices and advocate for change. NPAA will continue to stand united with nurses and healthcare professionals across Australia to raise the bar. We’re proud to be in your corner and we’ll continue to fight for what’s right.
