When Pressure Mounts, NPAA Has Your Back
After returning to midwifery following an extended break, one of our NPAA members was already navigating significant challenges—costly retraining, long-distance travel for upskilling, and balancing family responsibilities.
Just as she was regaining momentum and had applied for a permanent position, she was unexpectedly called into a meeting with hospital leadership. The reason? A patient had reportedly expressed concern about a comment the nurse allegedly made several years ago—a claim that had never been raised until now.
The meeting was scheduled with less than 24 hours' notice, despite the member having clearly communicated important family obligations that day. When she asked to reschedule, the request was denied.
NPAA Intervenes—And the Complaint Collapses
The member contacted NPAA for immediate support. Our experienced case manager attended the meeting with her, ensuring that her voice was heard and her rights were respected.
During the discussion, it became clear that:
- No formal complaint had been made
- The allegation came from a third party with a known personal history with the member
With this context, the matter was dropped on the spot—no investigation, no further action, no stain on her record.
Better still, the member’s professionalism and dedication were recognised with an upgrade to a 0.8 FTE contract.
How is the NPAA so effective in defending members during workplace issues and disputes? Our experienced and professional case managers use our unique RED™ case resolution system.
Why is the NPAA different? We believe that real change in healthcare STARTS with empowering frontline nurses, not bureaucrats.
