All nurses and midwives must renew their registration annually to remain legally registered to practise in Australia.
According to AHPRA, practitioners who have not completed their renewal by 30 June 2026 risk having their registration lapse. If this occurs, you may be removed from the national register and be unable to work as a nurse or midwife until your registration is restored.
For many practitioners, a lapse in registration can have immediate consequences for employment, rostered shifts and income.
WHY ARE SOME PRACTITIONERS STILL YET TO RENEW?
Many practitioners have reported difficulties with account activation, multifactor authentication, and navigation of the new system. While AHPRA has introduced additional support resources and troubleshooting tools, some users continue to experience delays.
With thousands of practitioners still accessing the system as the deadline approaches, waiting until the final days of June could create unnecessary stress if you encounter technical issues.
DON'T LEAVE IT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE
Even if you believe your renewal will only take a few minutes, it's worth allowing extra time in case you need to:
Reset login credentials
Complete multifactor authentication
Update personal details
Resolve technical issues with your account
