Key Deadlines
-
Renewal period opens: April 2026
-
Standard renewal deadline: 31st May 2026
-
Late renewal fee: $30
- Final deadline before removal from register: 30 June 2026
If you do not renew by 31 May, a late fee will apply.
If your registration is not renewed by 30 June, your name will be removed from the national register and you must immediately cease practising.
AHPRA Registration Fees for 2026-27
The Nursing and Midwifery Board registration fee has increased by 4.25% for the 2026–27 registration period.
General registration: $193
Non-practising registration: $39
Avoid Portal Problems: Log In Early
We recommend checking access well before the deadline.
Before you renew, verify:
✅ Your AHPRA portal username and password still work
✅ Your authenticator app is still linked to your account
✅ Your mobile number on file is current
You may need to re-link your device if:
-
You’ve changed phone numbers
-
You’ve replaced your phone
-
You deleted your authenticator app within the last 12 months
-
You reset your device settings
If this applies to you, sort it out before 31 May 2026.
Locked out? Call AHPRA early. If something isn’t working, don’t wait. Call AHPRA Customer Service on 1300 419 495 (preferably well before the May 31 deadline).
Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII)
Under national law, you must not practise without appropriate PII cover.
-
NPAA members have valid PII as part of their membership

-
You can download your Certificate of Currency through your NPAA dashboard
-
Need one with your name on it?
Contact the NPAA hotline
If you are not currently practising, you are not required to hold PII.
Recency of Practise
To maintain your registration, you must have completed a minimum of 450 hours of practise within the last 5 years.
This includes:
-
Clinical roles
-
Education, research, admin, or management roles
If you hold dual registration (e.g., as a nurse and midwife), you must meet recency of practise in each profession.
Criminal History
You must notify AHPRA if there have been changes to your criminal record that could impact your ability to practise safely.
You must declare:
-
Any offence with a potential sentence of 12 months or more
-
In WA: convictions for unpaid parking fines
-
In QLD: if you pleaded guilty and the outcome was guilty
-
In TAS: speeding or parking fines generally do not need to be declared unless they involve a conviction
If unsure, it is always safer to declare. Minor matters, if declared accurately, may not require further action.
Health Conditions and Impairments
You must declare any physical or mental impairment, condition, disability, or substance dependency that affects your ability to practise safely.
If your condition is well-managed and does not impair your ability to practise, you do not need to declare it.
Exposure-Prone Procedures (EEPs)
You will be asked whether you perform EEPs and whether you comply with:
-
Communicable Disease Network Australia (CDNA) guidelines
-
National guidelines for healthcare workers with bloodborne viruses
Relevant links and information are provided during the renewal process.
Right to Practise
If your right to practise at a healthcare facility has been restricted or withdrawn due to your conduct, performance or health, you must declare it.
This question typically applies to Nurse Practitioners or Midwives with specific clinical privileges, such as admitting rights.
It does not apply to general employment matters like being performance managed or terminated.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
To renew your registration, you must declare that you have met the CPD standard.
