When was the last time the QNMU/ANMF/NSWNMA answered your call within minutes, not days?
How often have you felt truly supported in your workplace issues, rather than being treated like a number?
They boast about their negotiations, but when was the last time wages actually kept pace with inflation?
Imagine a union that's there when you need it, fights for real solutions to your problems, and isn't afraid to challenge the status quo for better outcomes.
A union that puts you first, with zero party political bias.
You don’t have to imagine. That’s why we exist.
1. Responsiveness
Other Unions: The Silent Treatment
Have you ever tried to reach the QNMU/ANMF/NSWNMA with an urgent question?
Good luck.
Their standard response? "Sorry, you'll have to send an email. You'll get a response in 3 business days." And remember, that's a minimum, not a maximum.
In a profession where split-second decisions can make all the difference, this kind of delay is unacceptable.
NPAA: Most Contactable
When we say we want to be Australia's most accessible professional association, we mean it. That's why we offer our Most Contactable Guarantee. What does this mean for you?
- We guarantee a response to all frontline enquiries made by members within 24 business hours (public holidays excepted).
- In fact, with us, you typically get through within 30 seconds because we understand that in nursing, time is often of the essence.
2. Workplace Support
Other Unions: The Mystery Service
What exactly does the QNMU/ANMF/NSWNMA do for its members? It's hard to say.
What we do know is that many nurses come to us with pre-existing issues, telling us their existing union won't assist. It seems they are great at collecting dues, but not so great at providing actual support.
NPAA: Workplace Support, Guaranteed
At NPAA, we take a different approach. Our industrial support team is one of the best in Australia, and we back that reputation with action.
Here are just some of the issues we’ve successfully helped our members with:
- Queensland: Unfair Dismissal
- New South Wales: Termination into Resignation
- Victoria: Allegations of Breach of Conduct & Patient Confidentiality
- South Australia: Maternity Leave Entitlements
- Western Australia: Overpayment Dispute

3. Results: EB Negotiations
Let's be clear: what matters in Enterprise Bargaining negotiations isn't who's at the table - it's the results that come out of those negotiations.
The QNMU/ANMF/NSWNMA might boast about their presence at these talks, but if the outcomes don't benefit you, what's the point?
At NPAA, we firmly believe that outcomes matter, not intentions.
We have advocated for our members in state EB negotiations, and successfully negotiated for nurses in the Northern Territory. However, it has become clear that traditional EB negotiations are often a waste of time and resources.
Think about it - hours upon hours spent sitting in rooms, negotiating small clauses with paid lunch breaks. What if all that time and money were spent directly on nurses and midwives instead?
That's why we're advocating for a national restructure - Go Local:
- By reducing the administration-to-nurse ratio the total potential savings across all states and territories amount to an astounding $6,042,565,719.65.
- If these savings were passed on to nurses in the form of a pay rise, the government could afford to pay nurses on average $32,446.33 more per year without increasing the budget.
We believe that nurses should have more control over their workplaces and more of a say in how resources are allocated.
Look at Queensland, where we've been operating the longest. It's no coincidence that nurses there enjoy the best wages and conditions in Australia.
4. Politics
Traditional unions have lost their way. Deep political entanglements have shifted their focus from the needs of their members to the demands of party politics, leaving many wondering: is my union fighting for me or for their political allies?
We've heard numerous stories of nurses feeling sidelined by their representatives, their voices drowned out by political agendas.
This is a betrayal of what unions should stand for.
We're here to prove that a union can be strong and effective without playing political games. It's not just a clause in our constitution; it's the core of who we are.
From day one, we've steered clear of political funding and affiliations. Why?
Because we believe your voice matters more than any political agenda.
You're a Person, Not a Number
When you join NPAA, you're not just another name on a list. You'll receive a welcome call from your branch representative because we genuinely want to understand the issues affecting you and your workplace.
Your insights and experiences shape our priorities and inform our actions.
Our member support hotline is always ready to assist you. Whether you need guidance, have a question, or just need someone to listen, we're here.
No mazes of automated messages - just real support when you need it.
For more complex challenges, our case support team stands ready.
From unfair dismissal to maternity leave entitlements, we're prepared to support you through any workplace issue you might face.
This is the NPAA difference. We're not here to play politics or rest on our laurels. We're here to support you, advocate for you, and stand with you.
Because in nursing, every individual matters. And at NPAA, every member matters.
We invite you to experience the support, protection, and advocacy of NPAA yourself.
