Nursing and Midwifery Registration Renewal: Late Fees Waived Until 15 June

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has waived late renewal fees for nurses and midwives who complete their registration renewal before 15 June 2026.

The decision comes following the rollout of AHPRA’s new online portal, which has led to delays and difficulties for some practitioners in completing their annual renewal.

According to AHPRA, nurses and midwives who have not yet renewed their registration will remain registered until 30 June 2026. Practitioners who complete their renewal before 15 June will not incur a late fee.

AHPRA has acknowledged that some users have experienced challenges with the new portal, including account setup, multifactor authentication, and accessing support during peak renewal periods. To assist practitioners, additional support resources have been made available, including online guides, troubleshooting tools, and extended customer service hours.

What You Need to Know

Late fee waiver deadline: 15 June 2026.

Registration deadline: 30 June 2026.

Who is affected: All nurses and midwives renewing their annual registration.

Important: Practitioners who have not renewed their registration by 30 June may be removed from the national register and unable to practise until their registration is restored.

What Should You Do?

If you have not yet renewed your registration, now is the time to act. To help make the process easier, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide explaining how to renew your registration through the Ahpra portal:

With the renewal period drawing to a close, we encourage nurses and midwives to complete their renewal as soon as possible to avoid last-minute delays and ensure there is no interruption to their registration status.
